₹4,000 Crore Allocated for Dredging Corporation Modernisation to Boost Maritime Infrastructure

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a ₹4,000 crore investment for the modernisation of the Dredging Corporation of India, aiming to strengthen the country’s maritime infrastructure and support port development. The funding will focus on fleet modernisation, acquisition of new dredgers, and capacity enhancement, enabling the corporation to undertake larger and more complex projects efficiently. Speaking at an event in Visakhapatnam, the PM highlighted the strategic importance of dredging in ensuring navigable waterways, improving port connectivity, and boosting trade and economic growth. Officials noted that modern dredging equipment will reduce operational costs, enhance safety, and increase project turnaround times, aligning with India’s broader vision of developing world-class port infrastructure. The investment is also expected to generate employment opportunities and support ancillary industries linked to shipbuilding and maritime services, reinforcing India’s position as a key player in global maritime logistics.
