Traders are reportedly supplying fake khoya, paneer, and ghee made with chemicals, palm oil, starch, and artificial essence. Suppliers are transporting these fake dairy products daily from nearby districts to Muzaffarpur. They unload the goods early in the morning and distribute them to sweet shops and local vendors. Demand for sweets rises sharply during Holi, which encourages illegal production.
Officials also warned about edible oil made from burnt mobile oil. Some operators clean the waste oil, mix it with flavors, and sell it as mustard oil.
Food safety teams have limited staff and resources. Inspections continue, but officials urge people to buy sweets and dairy products only from trusted shops.
