14 Killed, 33 Injured as Bus Falls into Gorge in Himachal’s Sirmaur District
At least 14 people were killed and 33 others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Friday evening. The accident occurred near a hilly stretch of road, triggering a large-scale rescue operation involving local residents, police and disaster response teams.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. Authorities said the bus was travelling on a mountainous route when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into the gorge.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also conveyed condolences and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
The chief adviser (media) to the Chief Minister said an investigation has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the accident.
