In Bihar, 34,000 vehicles face registration cancellation and police confiscation if their owners fail to clear pending traffic fines. Officials found that these vehicles have more than five unpaid challans. The transport department has started strict action to recover dues.
Authorities had earlier warned vehicle owners to pay their fines and contact the District Transport Office before February 20. However, only around 450 people responded to the notice. Now, officials plan to block the registrations of the remaining vehicles.
If traffic police catch these vehicles on the road after cancellation, they may seize them immediately. Around 16,000 owners have already received notices. The department will send messages to the remaining 18,000 drivers and give them 10 days to clear their dues.
Officials said many drivers ignore online challans and repeated alerts, forcing the department to take firm action.
