$40 Billion Deal: AI Infrastructure Group Acquires U.S. Data Center Giant

A consortium led by BlackRock and Nvidia-backed AI Infrastructure Partnership has agreed to acquire U.S.-based Aligned Data Centers for $40 billion. The deal, announced on Wednesday, marks the first major acquisition by the partnership, which was formed last year to invest in AI-focused infrastructure. Alongside BlackRock and Nvidia, the group includes Abu Dhabi’s MGX fund and Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, among its key backers.
Aligned Data Centers operates some of the largest and most advanced data centers in the U.S., catering to growing demand for AI computing power. This acquisition underscores the increasing importance of specialized infrastructure to support rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technology. The $40 billion deal reflects confidence in the AI sector’s growth potential and signals significant investment in the hardware and facilities powering next-generation AI applications.
