Five foreigners arrested at Bihar Nepal border created high security tension. Police suspect they may be jail escapees.
The arrests took place at Rani-Jogbani in Bihar. Nepal Armed Police caught the group crossing illegally and handed them to local police.
The suspects first claimed they were from Thailand but had no documents. They were identified as Miguel Iqbisi from Bolivia, Sam Hamdurahi from South Sudan, and three Canadians – Mohammad Brahim Ahmed, Mohammad Ghalib, and Mohammad Majub.
Police recovered Nepali currency from them but found no valid travel papers. Their strange movements made police doubt they were tourists. Officers now suspect they may have escaped from jail. Intense questioning is going on at Rani Area Police Office.
The arrests came as violent protests spread in Nepal. Locals stayed inside homes for safety. Security at Jogbani international border in Bihar has been tightened. All agencies are on alert to stop further illegal entry.
