A total of 95,285 applications have been received for 2,620 liquor shop licenses across Telangana, officials announced. The lucky draw will be conducted on October 27 to finalize the allotments. Compared to 1.31 lakh applications in 2023, this year saw a drop of nearly 36,000 applications.
Officials attribute the decline to the increase in application fee to ₹3 lakh and the impact of Andhra Pradesh’s liquor policy, which has influenced traders’ calculations and market expectations. Despite the reduced number of applications, the government is set to earn ₹2,858 crore in revenue from application fees alone.
With the draw date nearing, expectations among applicants are high, as competition remains intense despite fewer overall submissions.
