Dearness Allowance Hike for Government Employees Before Diwali

The central government will announce a DA hike for employees and pensioners, with arrears paid before Diwali.

Central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for updates on the 8th Pay Commission. However, the wait will continue a little longer. The good news is that the government will likely announce a Dearness Allowance (DA) increase before Diwali.

The hike will benefit over 1.2 crore employees and pensioners, offering them extra money during the festive season of Dussehra and Diwali. Currently, employees receive a 55 per cent DA. Experts predict a 3-4 per cent increase, in line with inflation. The government revises DA twice each year: once in January and again in July.

Although the official announcement usually takes time, the hike will apply retroactively from July. This system helps employees and pensioners cope with rising living costs. For example, an employee earning Rs. 50,000 in basic salary could see a Rs. 3,000 increase in monthly income.

Pensioners will also benefit from an increase in Dearness Relief (DR), which links to DA. The hike will be effective from July 1, 2025. Arrears for July, August, and September will be paid in October, providing a festive boost to many households.
