Maharashtra Doctors Hold One-Day Strike Over Homeopath Registration

Doctors across Maharashtra are observing a one-day token strike today to protest the state government’s decision allowing homeopathic (BHMS-CCMP) doctors to register with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).

The strike is organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and supported by resident doctors, medical officers, and private practitioners. They argue that allowing homeopaths to practice allopathy puts patient safety at risk.

As a result, outpatient services are shut, and over 2,500 elective surgeries are expected to be postponed. Emergency services will remain partially functional, but hospitals are bracing for major disruption.

Doctors are demanding that the government withdraw the resolution permitting CCMP-qualified practitioners to register under the MMC.
