BJP leader Smriti Irani spoke at NDTV Yuva Mumbai on Saturday. She discussed politics, democracy, and her party’s rivals while reflecting on her acting and political journey.

Addressing a young audience, Irani said she entered politics to serve the country. “People like me have come to politics, but our goal is to work for the country,” she said.

She recalled defeating Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in 2019 by over 55,000 votes. In 2024, she lost the same seat to Kishori Lal Sharma, who won by more than 1.6 lakh votes in his first election.

When asked if she misses Parliament, she said she does not feel “FOMO” (fear of missing out). Instead, she said Congress suffers from “ROMO” (relief of missing out).

On the Opposition using “vote chori” (vote theft), she said, “It insults Indian democracy when the Opposition attacks the system after failing to win voters’ trust.”

Other speakers at NDTV Yuva Mumbai included Supriya Sule, Milind Deora, KT Rama Rao, and Poonam Mahajan.
