Amritsar Police Bust Fake Call Centre Phone Scam

Amritsar police raid fake call centre involved in online smartphone scam.

Amritsar police busted a fake call centre scam that cheated citizens across India. On September 15, they raided a centre selling fake premium smartphones online.

Over 80 women worked at the centre. They targeted buyers on OLX, offering iPhones and Samsung S24 phones at very low prices. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the gang sold phones worth over Rs 1 lakh for just Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. Buyers expecting real devices got high-quality replicas instead.

The gang sold 30-40 fake phones daily, earning nearly Rs 6 lakh each day. Police seized 47 mobile phones, including 29 with active SIM cards, eight extra SIMs, and six laptops used in the scam.

Raghav Bhardwaj of Pawan Nagar, Batala Road, Amritsar, has been arrested. His two associates, Ankit Gangotra and Gautam Thakur, remain absconding. Police registered an FIR at the cybercrime station.
