Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan accused Army Chief General Asim Munir of inflicting “mental torture” on him and his wife Bushra Bibi in jail.
Khan, 72, has spent more than two years in prison on several charges. Authorities keep him in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. His wife joined him earlier this year after courts convicted them in the Al-Qadir Trust cases.
Posting on X, Khan said Gen Munir wants to break their will and force them to surrender. “We will not bow to this cruelty,” he declared.
Khan claimed Munir uses the army to spread fear and tighten his grip on power. He accused the general of provoking Afghanistan by issuing threats, expelling Afghan nationals, and allowing drone strikes. According to Khan, Munir wants to appear as a “mujahid” to Western powers by acting tough on terrorism.
He also blamed Munir for Pakistan’s economic crisis. Khan said growth has slowed, foreign investment has collapsed, and national debt has doubled in three years.
Calling for action, Khan urged his party workers to gather for a rally in Peshawar on September 27 to demand a people’s government.
