Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak to the nation at 5 pm today, officials told India Today. The topic of his speech has not been revealed.
The address comes just before Navratri and coincides with new Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the reforms, effective September 22, will put Rs 2 lakh crore in the hands of the people. The GST simplification from four slabs to two will benefit poor and middle-class families, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The address also aligns with critical India-US trade talks. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will lead a delegation to the US on September 22 to advance a bilateral trade agreement. The delegation will visit New York and include Special Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and other officials.
During a September 16 meeting with the US Trade Representative’s team, both sides discussed key issues and agreed to push for a mutually beneficial agreement. The visit gains added importance after the US recently raised the H-1B visa fee to USD 100,000.
PM Modi’s address is expected to highlight economic reforms, opportunities for citizens, and India’s efforts to strengthen international trade.
