GST 2.0 Reforms Slash Costs, Offer Major Relief to Indian Consumers
The central government’s rollout of GST 2.0 reforms has come into effect today, bringing widespread relief to consumers across India. The revised tax structure aims to reduce the cost of essential items, healthcare, and insurance, making everyday life more affordable.
Under the new regime, 33 life-saving medicines, including those used for cancer and rare diseases, are now GST-free. In addition, GST on health and life insurance premiums has been completely waived, benefiting millions of individuals and families, especially senior citizens.
Essential goods like milk, bread, soaps, and sanitary napkins are now taxed at 0% or 5%, significantly lower than previous rates. The reforms also simplify tax filing for small traders and aim to boost domestic consumption during the upcoming festive season.
In Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched a public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the changes, calling the move “people-centric and economically progressive.”
Industry leaders and consumer rights groups have welcomed the reform as a bold step toward inclusive growth, improved healthcare access, and economic revival.
These changes reflect the government’s effort to ease financial burdens and promote a healthier, more consumer-friendly tax ecosystem.
