The Muktsar Congress president election has become a high-stakes contest in PCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s home district. Several prominent leaders have filed nominations, including Karan Kaur Brar, Fateh Singh Badal, and Anek Singh Brar, among others.
Karan Kaur Brar, former MLA from Muktsar, said she joined the race to keep the party united. “There are too many factions here. Only a staunch Congress leader can bring everyone together,” she said. She emphasized that her goal is to maintain harmony among workers and prevent divisions ahead of the upcoming elections.
Other contenders include Shubhdeep Singh Bittu, the current district president, advocate Jaspal Singh Aulakh, Charandeep Singh Baam, Ranjit Singh, Om Parkash Khichi, Navdeep Kaur, Bhinder Sharma, Jugraj Singh, Gurwinder Kaur, and Leelu Ram.
Former district president Gurdas Girdhar said the party needs committed leaders to work aggressively before the 2027 Assembly polls. Fateh Badal is the son of Maheshinder Singh Badal, who unsuccessfully contested Lambi Assembly elections thrice, including twice on a Congress ticket.
Congress Working Committee member Vikar Rasool Wani is actively touring Muktsar, gathering feedback from party workers to ensure the party selects the right leader for unity and electoral success.
