European Union Confirms India as Trusted Partner

EU top diplomat calls India a reliable partner, highlighting cooperation on multilateralism, trade, defence, and global challenges.

European Union’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas assured India of its reliable partnership during a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in multilateralism and global governance.

Alongside Brazil’s Minister Mauro Vieira Juan and Mexico’s Foreign Secretary Ramon de la Fuente, Kallas met EU foreign ministers on Monday. She emphasized that the EU supports multilateralism, free trade, and a world guided by the UN Charter.

Jaishankar highlighted that the meeting provided an opportunity for an open exchange of views on India-EU ties, global conflicts including Ukraine and Gaza, trade, energy, and multilateral cooperation. Kallas added that relations with Brazil, India, and Mexico are crucial for protecting the rules-based international order.

The EU recently unveiled a new strategic blueprint to deepen ties with India. The plan focuses on five pillars: trade, investment, technology and sustainability; defence and security; connectivity and global issues; and labour mobility coordination. Closer engagement aims to strengthen economic growth, security, and cooperation amid evolving geopolitical realities.
