Actor, producer, and music director G V Prakash Kumar won his second National Award for his music in the Dhanush-starrer Vaathi. He received the award from President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Prakash dedicated the honour to his fans who have supported him for 20 years across 110 films.
Prakash previously won a National Award for the background score of Soorarai Pottru, starring Suriya. This time, he was recognised for composing the music for a song in Vaathi. Speaking to reporters, he expressed gratitude and called it a special moment in his career.
Asked about the difference between scoring songs and background music, Prakash said both are challenging. Background scores require composing for two to three hours of film, while songs cover roughly half an hour. He explained that long background scores demand sustained creativity, though each task has unique difficulties.
The multi-talented artist, who also acts and produces films, hopes to win a National Award in other categories. He said, “I hope to win as an actor someday. I am also a producer and singer. Let’s see what the future holds.”
