Canadian police arrested three Khalistani extremists, including Inderjeet Singh Gosal, a close aide of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The arrests took place during a traffic stop on Highway 407 near Oshawa, Ontario, on September 19.

The police charged Gosal, 36, Jagdeep Singh, 41, from Pickville, USA, and Arman Singh, 23, from Toronto, with careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon. They appeared in Ontario Court of Justice in Oshawa on Monday. Authorities said the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation. The three could face prison if convicted.

Gosal became a key organiser for the US-based Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice after the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. He was also arrested in November 2024 following a violent incident at a temple in Brampton but was released on conditions.

The arrests signal a change in Canada’s approach toward Khalistani groups. They came a day after Indian NSA Ajit Doval met his Canadian counterpart, Nathalie Drouin, in New Delhi. Doval urged Canada to act against Khalistani extremists involved in anti-India activities, hinting at a possible improvement in strained India-Canada relations.
