The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2. Several players from the recent England tour, including Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shardul Thakur, and Karun Nair, are not in the squad.
Notably, Sarfaraz Khan, who recently impressed everyone with his weight loss, misses out due to injury. He last played for India against New Zealand at home in October 2024 and appeared in India A matches during the England tour. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed, “He is injured.”
Devdutt Padikkal makes a return to the Test side. He last played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November 2024 but impressed with a century in the recent India A vs Australia A unofficial Test in Lucknow.
Shubman Gill will lead the side after taking over red-ball captaincy from Rohit Sharma, with senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as vice-captain.
Dhruv Jurel will keep wickets, replacing the injured Rishabh Pant, who suffered a serious foot injury during the final Test against England. N Jagadeesan will serve as the backup wicketkeeper.
The squad blends youth and experience, aiming to continue India’s strong form in home Tests.
