A 29-year-old Indian-origin man, Varun Suresh, has been charged with murder in Fremont, California, after stabbing 71-year-old registered sex offender David Brimmer to death. Police called the attack “targeted” and arrested Suresh at the scene, recovering the knife used. Brimmer died from multiple stab wounds despite receiving emergency care.
Court documents reveal Suresh admitted he had long wanted to kill a sex offender, claiming, “They hurt children” and “deserve to die.” He used California’s Megan’s Law database to identify Brimmer, who had served nine years in prison for child sexual assault in 1995. The two had no prior personal connection.
On the day of the attack, Suresh posed as a CPA going door-to-door. After confirming Brimmer’s identity, he chased him when he fled, stabbing him in the neck and slitting his throat while telling him to “repent.” Investigators found a screenshot of Brimmer’s Megan’s Law profile on Suresh’s phone taken 45 minutes before the 911 call.
Suresh admitted he felt the act was “really fun” and showed no remorse. The Alameda County District Attorney charged him with murder, residential burglary, and use of a deadly weapon. Authorities say the incident appears isolated.
