RJD vs JDU in Tarapur Assembly

Tarapur Assembly election, RJD vs JDU battle

The Tarapur Assembly election in Bihar has always been a political battleground. It is a stronghold of the Kushwaha and Vaishya communities, with the JDU winning most seats in recent years. RJD is now trying to regain its lost ground here.

Since 1951, Tarapur has seen 19 elections, including two by-polls. JDU has secured victory six times, Congress four times, and RJD twice. Other parties like CPI, Janata Party, Samyukta Samajwadi Party, and independents have also tasted success.

Shakuni Choudhary and Prof. Mewalal Choudhary played key roles in this constituency’s history. Shakuni won Tarapur six times, while his wife Parvati Devi won once. Mewalal Choudhary, a JDU leader, won twice, and his wife Neeta Choudhary once. Both families belong to the Kushwaha community, which dominates local politics.

JDU has retained the seat in the last three elections since 2015. The 2021 by-poll saw JDU’s Rajiv Kumar Singh winning by a margin of 13,878 votes against RJD’s Shakuni Choudhary.

Tarapur voters highlight issues like irrigation, poor healthcare, uncommissioned bridges, and waterlogging. These remain central in every election, making Tarapur one of Bihar’s most watched constituencies.
