India, in its Right of Reply at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), said Pakistan’s military pleaded for a cessation of fighting during Operation Sindoor. First Secretary Petal Gahlot stressed that no third party should intervene in matters between New Delhi and Islamabad.
The remarks followed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address at the UNGA. He credited former US President Donald Trump with averting war between the nuclear-armed neighbours. Furthermore, he called for a “composite, comprehensive and result-oriented” dialogue with India and criticised New Delhi over Kashmir.
“This Assembly witnessed absurd theatrics from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who glorified terrorism central to their foreign policy,” Gahlot said.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. India stated that it agreed to cease hostilities after direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both militaries.
Moreover, Gahlot added that Pakistan’s claims ignored facts. She stressed India’s stance that terrorism must end and both nations should resolve disputes directly without outside intervention.
Experts note that India’s Right of Reply at UNGA reflects its firm position on national security. Additionally, they say it underscores India’s rejection of third-party interference. This exchange at the UNGA shows how regional tensions still influence global diplomacy.
