Two Militants Arrested for Assam Rifles Ambush

Security forces arrested two militants linked to the September 19 ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur, which killed two personnel, police confirmed on Saturday (September 27, 2025).

Police identified them as members of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The militants played a major role in the attack on the 33 Assam Rifles at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district. The attack left two soldiers dead and several others injured.

One militant was arrested in Guwahati, Assam, while police withheld the location of the other arrest. “We will interrogate both suspects to uncover the full scope of the attack and dismantle the network behind it,” said a senior police officer.

The September 19 ambush triggered major security concerns in Manipur. Following the incident, security forces intensified operations, targeting insurgent hideouts and strengthening convoy protection measures.

Officials described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the investigation. “These arrests reflect our strong commitment to safeguarding the region and countering insurgency threats,” said the officer.

The PLA has a history of violence in the northeast, targeting security forces and infrastructure. Authorities warned of stricter actions against militants and urged the public to cooperate in maintaining peace.
