Truth Can Never Be Imprisoned: Punjab Minister on Wangchuk

Truth can never be imprisoned,

Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains has demanded the immediate release of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, saying truth can never be imprisoned. Speaking on Friday, Bains condemned Wangchuk’s detention under the National Security Act (NSA) by the Ladakh administration.

Bains stated that Wangchuk’s arrest violates democratic values and free speech. He emphasised that Wangchuk has always voiced concerns for people and the environment without inciting violence. According to the minister, the arrest sends a dangerous message to activists and citizens.

He urged both the Union Government and the Ladakh administration to reconsider the decision. Bains argued that democratic dissent strengthens the nation rather than weakening it. “Truth can never be imprisoned. The government must respect the voice of its people,” he said.

The minister’s statement comes amid widespread debate on Wangchuk’s detention following protests in Leh. Wangchuk has emerged as a vocal critic of certain government policies, raising environmental and social concerns.

Bains called for a fair investigation and said that protecting activists and upholding freedom of speech is essential for democracy.
