The Supreme Court Order: Key Directives::

The Supreme Court has directed the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct local body elections by January 31, 2026, ending delays since 2022. It ordered the SEC to notify polls within 4 weeks, complete delimitation and preparations by October 31, 2025, and submit a compliance affidavit by November 30.
Until legal issues over OBC quotas are resolved, elections must follow pre-2022 OBC reservation percentages, not the Banthia Commission’s new recommendations. The Court warned no more extensions would be granted, and polls must proceed regardless of administrative hurdles.
The ruling aims to restore elected local governance, ending years of rule by government-appointed administrators. It also holds the SEC and state accountable for delays, directing full cooperation and timely action.
