India-U.S. Trade Deal Must Respect Red Lines, Says Jaishankar:

India-U.S. trade deal must respect New Delhi’s red lines, said External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He stated efforts are ongoing to find a mutually acceptable solution.
Key issues include U.S. tariffs India views as unfair, and demands affecting Indian farmers and small producers. Jaishankar stressed some matters are non-negotiable for India.
He also criticized U.S. sanctions targeting India over Russian energy imports, calling them selective, as other nations importing from Russia face no penalties.
Jaishankar emphasized India supports better trade ties, but not at the cost of core national interests.
He reaffirmed India seeks fair, balanced engagement, and warned that ignoring India’s economic sensitivities could stall progress.
Talks continue, but any final deal must honor India’s sovereignty, economic self-reliance, and domestic priorities.
