A 76-year-old man, Kannan of Kumbalappally, Karinthalam, tragically died after being attacked by his relative with a wooden log, police confirmed on Monday. The shocking incident took place on Sunday evening amid a long-standing family feud between neighbours.
According to the police, Sreedharan, a neighbour and relative of the deceased, allegedly trespassed into Kannan’s compound and struck him on the head with the log, inflicting severe injuries. Kannan was rushed to Neeleswaram Taluk Hospital and later shifted to Kanhangad Government District Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Authorities arrested Sreedharan shortly after the attack. The Neeleswaram police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 329(3) for criminal trespass and Section 103(1) for murder. The body will be handed over to Kannan’s family after post-mortem formalities.
Officials said that disputes between the two families had been ongoing, and the confrontation escalated tragically. Police have assured strict investigation and necessary legal action against the accused.
The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of unresolved family conflicts escalating into violence. Neighbours and locals expressed condolences to the family and urged for peaceful conflict resolution in the future.
