Trump Claims India-Pakistan Peace Deal Came Through His Tariff Threats

Trump Claims India Pakistan Peace Deal

US President Donald Trump once again claimed that he brokered peace between India and Pakistan. He said his tariff threats pushed the two nuclear-armed neighbours to step back from conflict earlier this year.

At the White House, Trump told reporters that tariffs gave him the power to prevent wars. He argued that without them, at least four of seven possible wars would have already started. Referring to India and Pakistan, he said, “They were ready to go at it. Seven planes were shot down. I don’t want to say exactly what I said, but it worked.

Since May, Trump has repeated this claim many times. Back then, he posted on social media that Washington helped secure a “full and immediate” ceasefire after a long night of talks. In August, he said he warned Prime Minister Modi that the US would block trade deals and impose heavy tariffs unless both countries cooled down. He added that the peace deal followed within five hours.

India rejected Trump’s version and said military officials on both sides spoke directly to stop hostilities. Pakistan first dismissed his role, but later praised it and nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
