Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court will continue hearing today at 2:15 PM on the petitions challenging the government order (GO) that provides 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections. On Wednesday, the court heard extensive arguments from both the government and the petitioners for over four and a half hours and posed several key questions regarding the legal and constitutional validity of the reservation percentage.

However, the bench did not issue any interim orders, clearing the way for the commencement of the nomination process for MPTC and ZPTC elections starting today. The case holds major political and social importance, as the verdict will determine the extent of BC representation in local governance.

The government has maintained that the reservation policy aligns with constitutional limits and aims to ensure fair participation of backward communities in rural political structures.
