Owaisi’s AIMIM May Disrupt Grand Alliance Plans in Seemanchal

Owaisi in Seemanchal during Bihar Election 2025 campaign

In the upcoming Bihar Election 2025, the political scene in Seemanchal has turned tense. Owaisi in Seemanchal is again in the spotlight after his recent visits and campaign activity. His party, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), aims to contest seats in the Muslim-majority regions of Seemanchal and Kosi. After being denied entry into the India Alliance, Owaisi has chosen to go solo, which could strongly impact the Grand Alliance’s vote share.

In 2020, AIMIM surprised everyone by winning five seats in Seemanchal — two in Purnia, two in Kishanganj, and one in Araria. The party’s candidates gained large vote margins, mainly among Muslim voters. This time, Owaisi in Seemanchal could once again change the political equation.

Out of 24 seats in the Seemanchal–Kosi region, 11 are Muslim-majority. If AIMIM contests all these, the Grand Alliance’s calculations might fail, helping the NDA gain from the vote split. Seemanchal’s Muslim population has also grown by 10–12% over the last decade, increasing the stakes further.

Owaisi’s entry makes Seemanchal the key battleground of 2025.
