Guntur: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a ₹5 lakh compensation for each family of those who died from melioidosis in Turakapalem village of Guntur district. The move comes after Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to extend support to the victims’ families, most of whom belong to economically weaker sections.

Responding swiftly, the state government sanctioned the relief package to help the affected households. A total of 28 families will receive the compensation, and Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar is scheduled to distribute the cheques today.

Officials have also been directed to take preventive health measures in the village and surrounding areas to curb further infections. The government reiterated its commitment to providing immediate medical and financial aid to families impacted by health-related tragedies in rural Andhra Pradesh.
