Brazil’s Vice President Meets Piyush Goyal to Boost Trade Ties

Brazil’s Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, met Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Thursday for the inaugural Trade Ministerial Review Meeting. The visit aims to strengthen trade and investment between India and Brazil.

Alckmin arrived in India on Wednesday for a two-day visit with a delegation of ministers, officials, and business leaders. On arrival, he met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, accompanied by Brazilian Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro Filho. Both sides reviewed defence cooperation and discussed opportunities for joint exercises, training, and co-development of defence equipment.

Alckmin is also scheduled to meet Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri. He will attend the India-Brazil Business Forum and visit the All India Institute of Ayurveda to explore partnerships in health and innovation.

Brazil is India’s largest trade partner in South America. The leaders of both nations recently set a target to raise bilateral trade to USD 20 billion within five years. The visit is expected to identify new sectors of collaboration and enhance the strategic partnership between India and Brazil.
