Caste and Gender Balance in Focus as BJP, JD(U) Release Bihar Candidate Lists

As Bihar gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, both the BJP and JD(U) have unveiled their candidate lists with a strong focus on backward classes and women representation. The BJP has repeated 55 sitting MLAs while dropping 16, making room for fresh faces and candidates from marginalized communities. Most key ministers and top organizational leaders have been retained, indicating the party’s intent to balance continuity with strategic outreach.
Both parties have collectively reserved around 13% of their tickets for women, signaling an effort to enhance gender representation in state politics. The emphasis on backward class candidates is being seen as a response to the changing caste dynamics and voter expectations in Bihar.
The JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, has also followed a similar pattern, fielding a mix of experienced leaders and new entrants. The lists reflect careful social engineering ahead of a closely contested election.
