The Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) has written to the Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Department, asking for a detailed status report on the proposed Polavaram–Banakacherla Link Project. The inquiry follows a formal complaint from the Telangana government, which raised objections over the link project proposals.
Recently, the AP government issued a tender notice for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Banakacherla link, aimed at connecting the Polavaram canal network with Rayalaseema irrigation systems. Telangana, however, has expressed strong reservations, arguing that the project could affect its water share and basin balance.
The GRMB’s letter seeks clarification on the current progress, objectives, and water utilization plans related to the project before allowing further steps. The issue may be taken up for discussion in the next board meeting between the two states.
