The Telangana government has taken a major decision by removing the two-child norm for local body elections. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has signed the file approving an amendment to the Panchayat Raj Act, clearing the way for leaders with more than two children to contest in Ward Member, Sarpanch, MPTC, and ZPTC elections.
The file will be placed before the Cabinet for approval on Thursday, after which it will be sent to the Governor. Once the Governor signs it, an Ordinance will be issued, officially removing the restriction.
With this move, the government aims to ensure greater participation in grassroots democracy, allowing more aspirants—especially in rural areas—to take part in local governance without disqualification based on family size.
