Educated Leaders Dominate Candidate List

Bihar election candidates’ education report

In the first phase of the Bihar elections, education has become a key factor. The NDA and Grand Alliance have fielded highly qualified candidates. Nearly 62% of all nominees hold graduate or higher degrees. Many are engineers, doctors, lawyers, and PhD scholars.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Murari Mohan Jha, and Ramanuj Kumar are D.Litt. degree holders. BJP’s Vijay Kumar Sinha and several others are engineers, while many RJD and Congress candidates possess PhD and MBA degrees.

According to affidavits submitted to the Election Commission, there are 17 LLB, 12 engineering, 12 PhD, 5 MBBS, 3 MBA, and 2 MPhil degree holders among the contestants. Only 8% of candidates are non-matriculate, showing Bihar’s shift toward more educated political representation.

This trend highlights a changing political culture where academic qualifications may play a bigger role in shaping leadership.
