SIT Detains TDB Official Murari Babu in Sabarimala Gold Theft Case
In a major development in the Sabarimala gold theft case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has detained Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) official Murari Babu for questioning. Officials confirmed that a plainclothes police team picked him up from his residence at Perunna, Kottayam, late on Wednesday night. The SIT had earlier named Murari Babu as an accused based on findings from the TDB’s Vigilance report, which pointed to possible irregularities in the handling of temple gold assets. Investigators are expected to question him on the disappearance of gold meant for temple ornaments and offerings. The detention marks a key step in the probe, which has already seen multiple officials questioned over the alleged misappropriation. Authorities said further action would depend on the outcome of ongoing interrogations and forensic audits. The case has triggered widespread public concern over transparency and accountability in temple administration.
