Kurnool Bus Tragedy: 25 Dead as Bengaluru-Bound Sleeper Coach Catches Fire After Collision
Early Friday around 3:30 a.m., a Bengaluru-bound private sleeper bus caught fire after colliding head-on with a motorcycle on National Highway 44 near Chinna Tekuru village in Kurnool district. The impact ruptured the fuel tank, and the bus was engulfed in flames within minutes. Around 40 passengers were on board; at least 25 people died, and several others were injured. Most victims were asleep and trapped as the doors jammed due to the impact. Survivors escaped by breaking windows before the fire spread. Local police, firefighters, and medical teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Kurnool Government Hospital. Authorities have ordered an inquiry into the cause of the accident and fire safety lapses in private long-distance buses. The tragedy has sparked widespread concern over highway safety and the need for stricter regulations for private transport operators.
