Heavy Rainfall Expected in Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Coastal Andhra Pradesh Rainfall forecast issued as new low-pressure area may trigger heavy showers in Rayalaseema and coastal districts.

Visakhapatnam: Parts of Andhra Pradesh have experienced heavy rainfall over the past few days due to a low-pressure system. A fresh low-pressure area is expected to form over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on Friday, October 24. The system will move west-northwest and intensify by Saturday, October 25. It may trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from October 26.

The existing low-pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south interior Karnataka moved west-northwest and currently lies over south interior Karnataka. Cyclonic circulation extends up to the middle troposphere and will continue west-northwest to the east-central Arabian Sea by Friday.

During the past 24 hours ending Thursday morning, districts including Krishna, Nellore, Prakasam, Annamayya, YSR Kadapa, and Anantapur received heavy rainfall. Yanam recorded 11 cm, while Masulipatnam, Seetharamapuram, and Racherla recorded 9 cm each. Other areas received between 2 cm and 8 cm of rain.

The IMD forecast states that Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nandyal, and Kurnool districts may experience heavy rainfall on Friday. On Saturday, Prakasam, Nandyal, and YSR Kadapa will see heavy showers, and on Sunday, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupati may witness significant rainfall.
