HAL and Russia’s UAC Collaborate to Produce SJ-100 Civil Jet
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) for the production of the SJ-100 civil jet. Under the agreement, HAL will acquire the rights to manufacture SJ-100 aircraft for domestic customers, marking a significant step in India’s civil aviation sector.
The collaboration aims to leverage UAC’s expertise in aircraft design and HAL’s manufacturing capabilities to produce the SJ-100 locally. The jet is expected to serve short to medium-haul routes, offering a cost-effective solution for regional air travel in India.
Officials from both companies highlighted that this partnership will also help strengthen technological collaboration between India and Russia in the aerospace sector. HAL plans to integrate local supply chains and workforce training programs to ensure efficient production and maintenance of the aircraft.
The move is seen as a boost to India’s Make in India initiative in aerospace and civil aviation.
