Pakistan-Afghanistan Talks in Turkiye Fail Amid Mutual Accusations
Pakistan confirmed that its four-day talks with Afghanistan, held in Turkiye from October 25, ended without progress. Islamabad accused Kabul of backtracking on earlier commitments to curb cross-border militancy and improve security cooperation. Pakistani officials said the Taliban delegation refused to act against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters allegedly operating from Afghan soil. Afghanistan, in turn, blamed Pakistan for repeated border closures and heavy-handed measures that disrupted trade and movement along key crossings. Despite mediation efforts by Turkish officials, both sides failed to agree on a joint security framework. The breakdown comes amid escalating tensions following a series of militant attacks in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Islamabad warned that patience is running thin, while Kabul reiterated calls for dialogue and mutual respect. Analysts fear the failure of the talks may further strain already fragile regional stability and bilateral relations.
