China Approves TikTok Transfer Deal with the United States

China approves TikTok deal

China has officially approved the transfer agreement for TikTok, clearing a major hurdle in the ongoing talks between Beijing and Washington.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the update on Thursday, saying he expects progress in the coming weeks and months. “In Kuala Lumpur, we finalised the TikTok agreement by securing Chinese approval,” Bessent told Fox Business Network. He added that both sides are now preparing to move forward toward a final resolution.

The announcement came shortly after President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a meeting aimed at easing trade and technology tensions between the two countries.

China’s Commerce Ministry also released a brief statement, saying it would “properly handle TikTok-related issues with the United States.

The approval marks a key step toward resolving long-running disputes over TikTok’s ownership and data security, which have caused political and economic friction for years. If the deal goes ahead smoothly, it could strengthen cooperation between the two major economies while giving TikTok a clearer path to continue operating in the US market.
