JD Vance Defends Wife Usha’s Religion After Backlash on Conversion Comments

JD Vance defends wife’s religion

US Vice President JD Vance responded sharply to criticism about his comments on his wife Usha’s faith. In a post on X, he said the backlash was “disgusting” and clarified that his wife is not a Christian and has no plans to convert.

Vance explained that a question about his interfaith marriage came from someone curious about their relationship. As a public figure, he said he couldn’t ignore the topic. He also shared that Usha actually helped him reconnect with his Christian faith years ago.

“She’s not a Christian and doesn’t plan to convert,” he said. “But like many in interfaith marriages, I hope she may one day see things as I do.

He condemned the online criticism as “anti-Christian bigotry,” saying that sharing one’s faith is normal. “Christians believe in spreading the Gospel—it’s not hate, it’s hope,” he added.

At a Turning Point USA event in Mississippi, Vance mentioned that Usha often joins him and their children at church. He said he wishes she might one day embrace Christianity, but respects her free will, calling it something “you work out with love and respect.”
