India Launches ₹1 Lakh Crore Fund to Drive High-Risk, High-Impact R&D: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will intensify support for high-risk, high-impact research and development (R&D) projects to drive innovation and economic growth. Speaking in New Delhi, he unveiled a ₹1 lakh crore fund aimed at promoting breakthrough technologies and encouraging private sector participation in cutting-edge research. The initiative seeks to strengthen India’s position as a global innovation hub, particularly in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green energy, biotechnology, and quantum computing. Modi emphasized that bold investments in high-risk research are essential for long-term national progress and self-reliance. The fund will provide long-term, low-interest loans and facilitate collaboration between academia, industry, and startups. The government also plans to establish an independent body to evaluate and support transformative ideas with global potential.
