Trump Blames GOP Losses on Shutdown and Absence from Ballot After Democrats’ Major Wins

Trump blames GOP losses

The first major U.S. elections since President Donald Trump returned to the White House ended with a sweeping victory for Democrats. Trump, however, offered his own explanation for the Republican losses. He said the GOP suffered because he was not on the ballot and due to the nation’s longest government shutdown.

“TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, citing pollsters.

Shortly after polls closed, the White House posted a cryptic message: “Trump is your President.” The statement hinted at Trump’s possible next steps after Democrats’ strong showing nationwide.

Earlier, Trump had warned that energy costs would “double or triple” under Democratic leadership. “A vote for the Democrats is a DEATH WISH! VOTE REPUBLICAN!” he wrote in another post, urging voters to cut energy costs by supporting Republicans.

Trump also threatened to withhold federal funds from New York City if Democrat Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral race. Despite his warning, Mamdani triumphed, becoming the city’s youngest mayor in over a century.

Trump’s posts reflected growing tension within his party after Democrats’ decisive gains across several key states.
