Excitement over the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections turned tragic in Munger district. Manju Devi, 40, wife of Ashok Yadav from Mohanpur village in Dharhara block, lost her right leg after falling from a moving train while heading home to vote.
Manju had returned from New Delhi and boarded the Sahibganj-Danapur Intercity Express to Dharhara. As the train arrived at Dharhara station on Wednesday evening, she hurried to get down before it stopped. In her rush, she slipped and fell. Her right leg was severed in the accident. Locals rushed to help and took her to the Dharhara Community Health Center. After first aid, doctors referred her to Munger Sadar Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Her son, Milan Kumar, said she had come home to cast her vote and never imagined such a tragedy.
Voting for the first phase is being held on Thursday across 121 assembly seats in 18 districts, including Munger. The second phase is scheduled for November 11, and counting will take place on November 14.
