Parliament’s Winter Session Scheduled for December 1–19 Amid Opposition Criticism
The Union government has announced that Parliament’s Winter Session will be held from December 1 to 19, 2025. The 19-day session, which is shorter than usual, has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who described it as “unusually delayed” and “truncated.” Leaders of opposition parties argued that the reduced duration could limit meaningful debate on key legislative and policy matters affecting the nation. The government, however, stated that the session will focus on legislative business, budgetary discussions, and ongoing national priorities. Parliamentary affairs officials confirmed that both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions will be held concurrently, with committees working to ensure smooth functioning despite the condensed schedule. Analysts note that while shorter sessions have become more common in recent years, opposition concerns reflect ongoing debates about transparency, accountability, and adequate time for scrutiny of government actions. The session is expected to see intense discussions on major policy initiatives.
