Sharad Pawar Predicts Change as Bihar Voters Seek New Leadership

Nationalist Congress Party–Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) chief Sharad Pawar believes Bihar could witness a major political shift. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said he would not be surprised if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) loses the ongoing assembly elections.

Pawar noted that Bihar stands apart from other states and has shaped key moments in India’s political history. Although he has not campaigned there, his contacts in the state have shared that the mood among voters signals a demand for change. “The people of Bihar want change,” Pawar stated confidently.

He highlighted Bihar’s deep political awareness despite its poverty. Citing Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran movement, Jayaprakash Narayan’s call against the Emergency, and Indira Gandhi’s Belchi visit, Pawar said these moments defined India’s democratic spirit.

The first phase of the Bihar elections recorded a historic voter turnout of 65.08 percent. The ruling NDA banks on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s long tenure, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led alliance promises jobs and better governance.

Pawar also praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for exposing irregularities in voter lists and urged the Election Commission of India to act on his concerns.
