Russian Helicopter Crash Kills Five in Dagestan Village Near Caspian Sea

Russian Helicopter Crash

A helicopter crash in Dagestan killed five people, including four senior executives of the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant, on November 7. The Ka-226 helicopter was flying near the Caspian Sea when its tail hit a rock during landing. The impact snapped the rotor, sending the aircraft out of control.

The helicopter crashed into a private house in the village of Achi-Su and burst into flames. The home, which was empty at the time, burned to the ground. Videos online showed the chopper spinning before hitting the roof, followed by a huge fire as firefighters battled the blaze.

Kizlyar Plant confirmed that four employees, including deputy general director Achalo Magomedov, died in the crash. A flight mechanic also lost his life, and two others were injured.

Nexta, an Eastern European news channel, reported that a technical malfunction caused the crash, ruling out any foul play. Russia’s aviation agency Rosaviatsia launched an investigation and classified the incident as a disaster.

The EU sanctioned Kizlyar Plant in 2024 for providing aircraft parts used by Russia’s military in the Ukraine war. The factory makes bomb racks and control systems for fighter jets.
