The Tarn Taran by-election saw early momentum shift toward the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday morning. Counting began at Piddi’s International College of Nursing, where officials moved through 16 scheduled rounds. The contest drew strong interest as the seat opened after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.

SAD candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa built a clear lead from the first round. She secured 5,843 votes while AAP’s Harmeet Singh Sandhu followed with 4,363 votes. Her margin extended to 1,480 votes after the second round. Party workers cheered the trend as numbers continued to favour the SAD camp.

Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj held third place with 2,955 votes. Independent candidate Mandeep Singh stood fourth with 1,889 votes. The BJP candidate lagged behind with 435 votes. A total of 15 candidates contested this high-stakes bypoll.

Voters cast their ballots on November 11, registering a turnout of 60.95%. The election received attention across Punjab, as the result could signal shifting political moods in rural areas. All eyes now remain on the final rounds as counting progresses through the day.
